Alternative Firings
Instructor: Marsha VanVlack
June 11 - September 2
one day of instruction with firing days at Marsha's house to finish the session
In-Person Class: Wednesday 2-4pm or Wednesday 6-8
(After the first week of class, it is structured similar to an independent study with no classes until the two day firing process at the end. Students are welcomed to become as involved as they would like during the outdoor firing process!)
Students in this class can expect to play with Raku, Sagar and Barrel firings, Alcohol Reduction and Horse Hair. Offered to returning ceramic students of the WCAC.
The first class will be an overview of the different firing techniques, and what clays and glazes work best. Students will then have the full use of the studio to develop a body of work with these atmospheric surfaces in mind. The last week of classes will be a weekend of outdoor alternative firings.
