Open to Beginners - Instructor: Bill Moon
8 weeks of instruction over 10 weeks
Mondays, 4 - 6 pm
Local potter Bill Moon will cover introductory-level wheel throwing techniques, then all students will have the chance to fire in Bill's wood kiln after the end of the session! Being a collaborative and community based experience, wood firing is special in that it brings everyone closer together through hard work and conversation around one
common goal – to start a fire.
For those who are participating in the wood firing:
Fall Session: September 2nd - November 10th 2024
Fire a wood kiln with Bill Moon! Open to all ceramic artists, functional and sculptural. The class will make and bisque at the Wellsville Creative Arts Center. Glazing and the final wood firing will be in Bill’s catenary arch wood kiln. How to make work that
is conducive to that wood fired magic will be discussed and demonstrated during class. Learn about slips, wadding, and special wood-firing glazes such as shinos.
To maximize student’s time to create a body of work the class will be conducted the season before the firing i.e. – Winter Class / Spring Firing, Spring Class / Summer Firing, Summer Class / Fall Firing, etc. Students who enroll will need to make the firing dates a priority, as everyone will be assigned a shift to help fire the kiln.
